We introduced our 4th Trophy Award-winner wine, the 2017 Grófi Hárslevelű

Thanks to the special, volcanic soil, climate and local varieties, Somló wines are unique throughout the world. Our most important goal is to show as much as possible of this uniqueness in our wines. In our assortment, special wines that can be matured for a long time have a prominent place, and they are awarded the highest prizes in international competitions.

London's International Wine Challenge is one of the world's most prestigious wine competitions. This year, nearly 50 countries have nominated more than 15,000 wines, only 500 of them receive gold medals. In the multi-turn process, the nominated wines are evaluated by three committees with at least 10 jury members with a long professional experience. Category winners are chosen from the gold medalists by a new tasting – they get the Trophy Award.

On the 1st of July, professionals and the public could first taste the Grófi Hárslevelű awarded with the Trophy Award in 2019, on a tasting led by Tamás Tornai.

"This is a glad moment for us, as not only a Hungarian wine has been awarded in one of the the world's largest international competitions, but Somló came also into the spotlight," summarized Tamás Tornai the importance of the prize.

Tamás Tornai also emphasized that the International Wine Challenge is not only a contest, but also the award-winning wines are shown at a special event for international wine merchants and professional elite. As a result of the successes of recent years, Somló has attracted the attention of the international wine industry. Thus, not only the winery but the whole wine region can benefit from the prize.

On the tasting not only the winner of this year's award could be tasted, but also the wines recognized in previous years. The curiosity of the tasting line was a few older wines that represent that Somló wines can be matured for a long time.
